Pac-12 WBB: Seven NCAA bids, including a No. 1 seed, are the reward for a stellar season, but Oregon shut out

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 11:37:28 GMT

Pac-12 administrators and women’s basketball coaches lobbied hard for Oregon to make the NCAA Tournament but ultimately couldn’t convince the NCAA selection committee.Despite a lofty NET ranking (No. 19), Oregon was not among the 36 at-large selections to the NCAA field announced Sunday. So the Pac-12 goes into March Madness with a record-tying seven qualifiers rather than breaking the 2017 mark with eight.Regular season co-champion Stanford snagged the final No. 1 seed over Iowa and Connecticut despite losing two of its last three games. Stanford and Iowa could meet with a Final Four berth on the line.Selection committee chair Lisa Peterson said in an ESPN interview that Stanford’s 20 wins against top-100 opponents was a deciding factor in the No. 1 seed debate. The Cardinal is 13-5 in Quadrant 1 games, while UConn is 15-4 and Iowa 11-6. (Peterson is the Pac-12’s senior associate commissioner for sports management.)The other No. 1 seeds are undefeated South Carolina, the defe...

DENVER (KDVR) -- UCHealth leaders said they’re seeing an increase in young people suffering from noise-induced hearing loss.  Hearing loss is most associated with age, but UCHealth audiologist Dr. Vinaya Manchaiah said exposure to loud noise is the second biggest risk factor. "In the past, we didn’t have access to listen to music for really long times, but now with the smartphones, you can listen to music for a long time and you see people wearing headphones all day long,” Manchaiah said. Around the world, 50% of teenagers and younger adults (12-35) are at risk of hearing loss due to recreational exposure to loud sounds, according to UCHealth leaders.   State to crack down on late car registrations “If you’ve lost some hearing because of noise and now you’re losing it because of age, then at a much younger age, people will have hearing loss,” Manchaiah said. John James suffered from noise-induced hearing loss after working in construction for 40 ...

McCaughey: College industrial complex pushes lies of left

Published Sat, 22 Feb 2025 11:37:28 GMT

Families saving for college and encouraging their kids to aim for the top are getting scammed by the left-wing college industrial complex. Colleges distort and outright lie about who gets accepted, education quality and what it costs. If they were selling auto loans and used the same deceptive tactics, they’d be in jail.Columbia University announced earlier this month that it is permanently eliminating SAT and ACT test scores as part of the undergraduate admissions process — the first Ivy League school to go permanently test-optional. Columbia issued a slippery statement about making admissions “nuanced” and “respecting varied backgrounds, voices and experiences.” Truth is, Columbia is ditching merit for diversity. Without admitting it, Columbia has replaced an academic mission — providing a rigorous education to a group of prepared students — with a new one: social engineering.Expect other colleges to follow.President Joe Biden made equity the mission ...
